Tag -5: Wir vulkanisieren unseren Reifen...Day -5: Vulcanising our tyre…
Endlich ist es soweit - wir starten in unser Island Abenteuer - aber noch nicht ganz…
Der Plan war heute (Samstag, 8.8.2026) in Richtung Deutschland aufzubrechen - dort 2 Nächte übernachten, am Sonntag das Elite 16 Beachvolleyball Turnier ansehen und am Montag dann Richtung Hirtshals (Dänemark) weiterzufahren. Damit wären wir heute ca. 10 Stunden geplant unterwegs gewesen und um diese 10 Stunden einigermaßen erträglich zu fahren, wollten wir relativ früh in den Tag starten.
Also Tagwache - 07:30 Uhr: Letzte Überbleibsel ins Auto packen, nochmal ein kurzer Check ob alles Wichtige eingepackt wurde (bestimmt nicht aber fühlt sich besser an wenn man nochmal drüber nachdenkt), noch die Tiere und uns selbst füttern und los geht's!
Dachten wir….
Keine 100m gefahren hören wir ein “komisches Geräusch" beim Fahren - Fenster geöffnet und das Geräusch wurde beim Beschleunigen schneller und lauter… Na und wie soll's anders sein - nachdem wir kurz stehen bleiben um eigentlich noch kurz zu laden sehen wir folgendes Problem an unserem Reifen:
Wow - nachdem's nun ca. 9:00 Uhr ist - bricht kurze Panik aus - wo bekommen wir am Samstag Vormittag einen Ersatzreifen? Kurz alle bekannten Reifenhändler in der Umgebung gecheckt - niemand hat Samstag Vormittag offen… Wirklich niemand? Nein - natürlich nicht - in unserem kleinen beschaulichen Dorf namens Pucking gibt es einen Retter in letzter Sekunde an den ich hier noch ein Shoutout geben will - https://reifen-eckmann.at - Reifen Eckmann hat uns kurzfristig vorbeikommen lassen und uns vom Telefonat bis zum reparierten Reifen ca. 1,5h gekostet und damit unseren Islandtrip gerettet. Finally the time has come - we're setting off on our Iceland adventure - well, almost…
The plan for today (Saturday, 8 Aug 2026) was to head towards Germany - spend 2 nights there, watch the Elite 16 beach volleyball tournament on Sunday, and then continue towards Hirtshals (Denmark) on Monday. That would have meant around 10 hours of driving today, and to make those 10 hours reasonably bearable we wanted to start the day fairly early.
So, up at 07:30: pack the last odds and ends into the car, do a quick check whether everything important was packed (certainly not, but it feels better after thinking it over one more time), feed the animals and ourselves, and off we go!
Or so we thought….
Not even 100 m down the road we hear a "strange noise" while driving - opened the window and the noise got faster and louder as we accelerated… And how could it be otherwise - after briefly pulling over to actually top up the charge, we spot the following problem on our tyre:
Wow - since it's now about 9:00 am, a short bout of panic sets in - where do we get a replacement tyre on a Saturday morning? Quickly checked all the known tyre dealers in the area - nobody's open on Saturday morning… Really nobody? No - of course not - in our small, sleepy village called Pucking there's a last-second saviour I want to give a shoutout to here - https://reifen-eckmann.at - Reifen Eckmann let us drop by at short notice and, from the phone call to the repaired tyre, it took about 1.5 hours and thereby saved our Iceland trip.
